Project Overview
Architecture is a storyteller, and for Ralph Sellers Automotive Group, the next chapter needed to be bold. The existing site featured an aging vehicle repair shop that lacked the architectural impact needed for a thriving dealership campus. The challenge was a beautiful puzzle: how to weave the brand-new design requirements of the Hyundai Corporate Image into the fabric of an existing structure.
Our task was to unite the client's programmatic needs, including significant capacity growth, with Hyundai's distinct identity. This wasn't a simple addition or a ground-up new build; it was a delicate fusion of both. We envisioned a space where the 8,000 sq ft addition, housing the sales floor and offices, would seamlessly connect to the revitalized repair shop, maximizing every square foot of its potential.

The Impact
Our strategic move was to paint a new masterpiece on an existing canvas. We had a frontage of about 40,000 sq ft to work with, and our goal was to fit the entire corporate image and branding of a new dealership within this space. It was a challenge of geometry and imagination.
The design cleverly conceals the majority of the original repair shop, integrating it into the new building's flow for perfect connectivity and reuse. We saw this not as hiding the old, but as giving it a new purpose. The stunning glass curtainwall design creates an inviting, open feel that attracts customers from the highway. Inside, glass partitions around the offices maintain that sense of openness while still meeting the dealership's specific occupancy and programmatic needs.
In every project, there's a moment that defines its success. For the Ralph Sellers Hyundai project, it was the adaptive reuse of the existing repair shop. This became a major win for our collaborative design team. It was a testament to what's possible when you look at an old structure and see not its limitations, but its hidden strengths.
We successfully integrated the new and existing structures, fenestration, and circulation patterns to create a cohesive and functional whole. This technical harmony was the key to unlocking the client's vision, proving that innovation can be found in revitalization just as much as in new construction.
A forward-thinking design must also be a smart one. We designed the entire facility for maximum efficiency and minimal energy consumption. The thoughtful pairing of new LED lighting with abundant natural light dramatically reduces the reliance on artificial sources, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for customers and staff alike.
Our commitment to efficiency extended beyond the new construction. The entire site's existing lighting was replaced with new LED fixtures, a move that significantly reduces energy use across the campus and illuminates the dealership's impressive inventory day and night.
The true value of this transformation is measured in its economic and functional impact. The new layout has maximized the client's site, activating 40,000 sq ft of previously uninhabited land and turning it into a powerful asset.
The 8,000 sq ft addition created a brand-new indoor sales floor and modern offices. This expansion includes 10 new sales consultant stations, 6 new private offices, and a completely new service advisor and service department area. Furthermore, the project unlocked approximately 30,000 sq ft of prime vehicle inventory display space. This is more than just a renovation; it's a powerful engine for business growth, customer engagement, and a new landmark for the Ralph Sellers Automotive Group.
